Terminoloģija un mutiskā tulkošana medicīnā

Abstract

Pieprasījums pēc mutvārdu tulkošanas dažādās jomās Latvijā pēdējos gados ir tikai audzis un tāpat arī pieprasījums pēc kvalificētiem un izglītotiem tulkiem. Pēc Latvijas pievienošanās Eiropas Savienībai 2004. gadā, latviešu valoda kļuva par vienu no tās oficiālajām valodām, tādējādi nodrošinot mutisko tulku nepieciešamību Savienības noteikumu izpildē dzimtajā valodā. Mutiskā tulkošana medicīnā un veselības aprūpē nav plaši izplatīta Latvijā, tomēr nākotnē arī mēs varam sagaidīt pieaugošu pieprasījumu pēc šī pakalpojuma iespējamās migrācijas uz Latviju dēļ. Mutiskais tulks, kas tulko medicīnas tekstus, savā darbā saskaras ar vairākām problēmsituācijām – gan tādām, kas raksturīgas arī konferenču tulkošanā, gan īpaši raksturīgām mutiskajā tulkošanā medicīnā. Galvenokārt mutiskais tulks medicīnā ir pakļauts daudz lielākām stresa situācijām, kuras izraisa informācijas sensitivitāte un nepieciešamība tulkot ļoti personīgu un konfidenciālu informāciju. Mutiskais tulks pretēji konferenču tulkam pārsvarā strādā vienatnē, tulkojot no un uz savu dzimto valodu vienlaicīgi un nesaņemot kolēģu atbalstu un pozitīvu kritiku. Tieši standartu un finansiālā atbalsta trūkuma dēļ, daudzas veselības aprūpes iestādes vēl joprojām izvēlas neprofesionālu un neapmācītu tulku pakalpojumus. Arī terminoloģijas ekvivalentu trūkums Latviešu valodā medicīnas nozarē rada problēmsituācijas, kuras nepieciešams risināt nekavējoties tulkošanas laikā, kas līdzvērtīgi trūkstošajiem standartiem, samazina tulka kompetenci un rada nekvalitatīvu tulkojumu, kas savukārt var izraisīt neprognozējamas sekas saistītas ar pacienta veselību un dzīvību. Diplomdarbs apskata mutiskās tulkošanas situāciju, terminoloģijas problemātiku un iespējamos risinājumus tulkiem, kuri strādā ar medicīnu un veselības aprūpi saistītās jomās gan slimnīcās, poliklīnikās un citās veselības aprūpes iestādēs, gan medicīnas konferencēs.

The demand for interpreting in various spheres in Latvia has recently increased and so is the demand for competent and trained interpreters. After Latvia accessed the European Union (the EU) in 2004, the Latvian language became one of the official languages of the EU thus ensuring the interpreters to fulfil the requirements of the Union in native language. Interpreting in medicine and health care is not very common in Latvia, but in future we may also face the increasing demand for interpreting services due to possible increase of guest workers coming to Latvia. Medical interpreter that interpreters medical texts faces several challenges – those characteristic to conference interpreting and also those characteristic to medical interpreting. Medical interpreter is more subjected to stress situations that are caused by interpreting sensitive, personal and confidential information. In opposite to the conference interpreter, medical interpreter is mainly interpreting to and from his native language and working alone therefore not receiving feedback and positive criticism from the colleagues. Especially due to shortage of standards and financial support, health care sector frequently chooses to employ ad hoc interpreters. The shortage of equivalent medical terminology in Latvian cause problems that similarly to shortage of standards decrease the interpreter’s competence un produce imperfect interpretation. The beforehand mentioned problems may cause unpredictable consequences to patient’s health and life. The diploma paper looks at the present situation in interpreting, the problematic of terminology and possible solutions for interpreters that work in the medical and health care field in hospitals, polyclinics, other health care venues or in medical conferences.
