Viktorijas laika izglītība Č.Dikensa un māsu Brontī darbos

Abstract

Darbā tiek analizēta Anglijas izglītības sistēma karalienes Viktorijas valdīšanas laikā, kādu to savos darbos atspoguļojuši Čarlzs Dikens un māsas Brontī. Rakstnieki iepazīstina lasītāju ar izglītības iespējām, kādas 19. gs. pirmajā pusē bija iespējamas Anglijā dzīvojošajiem strādnieku šķiras, trūcīgo un bagāto ļaužu bērniem. Darbā izvirzīta hipotēze, ka Viktorijas laika izglītības procesa atspoguļojums Čarlza Dikensa un māsu Brontī darbos, norāda nepieciešamību pēc reformas un jaunas izglītības sistēmas, kura spētu nodrošināt izglītību visiem bērniem, neatkarīgi no viņu sociālā stāvokļa. Hipotēzes pierādīšanai izmantoti sekojoši daiļliteratūras avoti: Šarlotes Brontī romāns „Džeina Eira”, Annas Brontī romāns „Agnese Greja”, kā arī Čarlza Dikensa romāni „Deivids Koperfīlds”, „Lielās cerības”, „Nikolass Niklbijs”, „Mūsu kopīgais draugs” un „Grūtie laiki”. Čarlzs Dikens un māsas Brontī bija ieinteresēti savas valsts labklājības un izglītības attīstībā. Daudzi viņu romāni rakstīti personīgu iespaidu, kā arī valsts sociālo un politisko apstākļu ietekmē. Citāti no literatūras avotiem apstiprina izvirzīto hipotēzi, ka 19. gadsimta sākumā Anglijas izglītības sistēmā valdīja haoss un bija steidzami nepieciešams pieņemt valstiskus ar izglītību saistītus lēmumus. Čarlzs Dikens un māsas Brontī savos darbos atklāj savu patieso vēlmi palīdzēt uzlabot Viktorijas laikmeta izglītības sistēmu.

The work analyzes the educational system of the Victorian period as it is reflected in Charles Dickens’s and Brontë sister’s works. The authors in their novels portray different educational opportunities offered in the first part of the 19th century for the working-class, poor and wealthy family children. The work advances the hypothesis that Charles Dickens’s and Brontë depictions of Victorian educational system highlight the necessity for reform and new educational system that could provide education to all children, regardless of their social status. For proving the hypothesis the following novels: Charlotte Brontë’s novel “Jane Eyre”, Anne Brontë’s novel “Agnes Grey” and Charles Dickens’s novels “David Copperfield”, “Great Expectations”, “Nicholas Nickleby”, “Our Mutual Friend” and “Hard Times” are used. Charles Dickens as well as sisters Brontë were greatly interested in the welfare and education of their country. Many of their novels were influenced by their own experiences and the social and political conditions of England. The work proves the hypothesis using quotations from the fiction. Facts confirm that in the beginning of the 19th century, educational system in England was chaotic as the state did not take on responsibility for education. Charles Dickens and sisters Brontë in their novels reveal the writers genuine desire to help to adjust the Victorian educational system.
