Kolonizēto manksmenu un tasmāniešu pieredze Mateja Knīla romānā "Angļu pasažieri"

Abstract

Šī Bakalaura darba mērķis ir analizēt Manksmenu un Tasmāniešu pieredzi mūsdienu rakstnieka Mateja Knīla (1960) vislavenākajā romānā “Angļu pasažieri” (2000). Romāns “Angļu pasažieri” ir ieguvis Whitbread Book of the Year balvu un bija izvirzīts balvai Booker Prize for Fiction. Bakalaura darbs aptver ievadu, četras daļas, tēzes un nobeiguma daļu, un kopumā ir 56 lappuses garš. Caur Manksmenu un Tasmāniešu pieredzi gūsim ieskatu Britu vēstures tumšākajās lappusēs, kad Britu iebrucēji iznīcināja visu Tasmānijas kultūru un tautu. “Angļu pasažieri” ir episks stāsts, kura pamatā ir vēsturiski fakti. The present Bachelor thesis is an attempt to analyse the experience of Manxmen and Tasmanians in the most famous novel of the contemporary English writer Matthew Kneale (born in 1960) English Passengers (2000). This novel won the 2000 Whitbread Book of the Year Award and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction. The Bachelor thesis consists of 56 pages, introduction, four chapters, theses and conclusion. Through the experience of Manxmen and Tasmanians we will gain an insight into one of the darkest times of the British history when the British colonizers destroyed the entire culture and people of Tasmania. English Passengers is a rich epic tale that is based on historical facts, filled with sparkling humor, exciting and dangerous adventures, bright and memorable characters. The novel is told by more than 20 different voices skipping back and forth across the years, but the skillful novelist M. Kneale somehow manages to keep the reader from becoming confused. What is more, M. Kneale uncovers different experiences of miscellaneous people of the novel and manage to make those characters close and familiar to the reader. As an outstanding result of the talented M. Kneale’s detailed research and vivid storytelling we have an impressive achievement – the novel English Passengers.
