Neierobežotā raksturu dažādība Henrija Fīldinga romānā "Stāsts par Tomu Džounsu, atradeni"

Abstract

Henrijs Fīldings ir viens no rakstniekiem, kas veicināja angļu romāna tālāko attīstību. “Stāsts par Tomu Džounsu, atradeni” ir viņa meistardarbs. Darba uzdevums bija uzsvērt H. Fīldinga prasmi atainot paša radīto sabiedrības modeli, kas ietver pārstāvjus gan no zemākajiem sabiedrības slāņiem, gan aristokrātijas, kalpotājus un dižciltīgos, izpētīt, kādā veidā autors atklāj raksturus un to dabu (analizējot cilvēku uzvedību, motīvus, pierādījumu izvērtēšana pirms lēmumu pieņemšanas, emocijas un jūtas), izanalizēt ārējo apstākļu ietekmi uz raksturu attīstību (piemēram, apkārtējā vide, sabiedrības viedoklis, rīcība), parādīt ironijas nozīmi raksturu komisma atklāšanā (piemēram, skolotāji Tvakums un Skvērs, Vesterns un viņa māsa), norādīt H. Fīldingam raksturīgo cilvēka dabas asociēšanu ar varoņu vārdiem (piemēram, Alvortijs – labestība, Blifils – ļaunums, Sofija – gudrība), kā arī raksturu pretstatīšanu (Toms – Blaifils, Alvortijs – Vesterns, Sofija – Mollija). Tiek norādīta arī otrā plāna varoņu loma - notikumu gaitas virzīšana, attiecības ar galvenajiem varoņiem, kuru identitāti un personību stāstītājs vēlas atklāt. Darba mērķis ir parādīt, ka H. Fīldings ir reālists – romāna varoņi ir patiesi un to rīcība ir līdzīga reālu cilvēku rīcībai. Ar neskaitāmu notikumu atstāstu un raksturu mijiedarbību H. Fīldings atklāj neierobežoto raksturu dažādību – no labsirdības līdz ļaunumam, no gudrības līdz muļķībai, no mīlestības līdz naidam, no tikumības līdz amorālumam. Darbā raksturots apgaismības laikmets, tā kultūras īpatnības, dzīve 18. gadsimta Anglijā, sniegts ieskats H. Fīldinga biogrāfijā, kā arī rakstnieka un viņa laikabiedru romānu un to iezīmju salīdzinājums. Darbā ir ietverta arī plašāka informācija par H. Fīldinga labāko romānu – „Toms Džounss, atradenis”.

Henry Fielding is one of the novelists who gave an impulse to further development of the English novel. Tom Jones is considered to be his masterpiece. The purpose of this paper is to highlight H. Fielding’s ability of maintaining the vast amplitude of the created society model (characters ranging from lower class to aristocracy, from servants to noblemen), to study H. Fielding’s way of presenting his characters and revealing their nature (by analyzing human behavior, motives, evidence evaluation before taking decision, emotions and feelings) as well as presenting the external factor contribution to character development (e.g. the surroundings, public opinion, actions), treating the characters with irony in order to reveal their jocularity (e.g. Masters Thwackhum and Square, Squire Western and his sister), human nature associations by names (e.g. Allworthy – benevolence, Blifil – evil, Sophia – wisdom) and contrasting (Tom – Blifil, Allworthy – Western, Sophia – Molly). The role of minor characters is revealed as well - to move forward the flow of events and to interact with the main characters whose identity and personality the narrator wants to reveal. The goal of the paper is to show that H. Fielding is a realist – his characters are true to nature and their actions are similar to those of people in the real life. Through countless events and character interaction H. Fielding reveals the variety of human nature – from benevolence to evil, from love to hate, from intelligence to folly, from virtue to immorality. For the background information, the paper presents an insight into the period of Enlightenment, describes life in the 18th century England, gives an insight into H. Fielding’s life, compares H. Fielding with other writers of the period, as well as provides more profound information on Fielding’s masterpiece Tom Jones.
