Ģimenes tēls bēgušo vergu dzīves stāstos

Abstract

Maģistra darbā tika pētīts Afro-Amerikāņu vergu ģimenes tēls, kā arī ģimenes loma bēgušovergu dzīves stāstos. Tika sniegts ieskats verdzības vēsturē no senajiem laikiem līdzdeviņpadsmitajam gadsimtam parādot ģimeni kā ,,īpašu institūciju,, Amerikas dienvidu štatos. Līdz ar to, attieksme pret verdzības tēmu bija diezgan izkropļota, it īpaši tas ir vērojams ne tikai no sociālā bet arī no psiholoģskā aspekta, abpusējās attiecībās ,,vergs-saimnieks’’, jo Amerikā verdzību uzskatīja par kaut ko neierastu un unikālu. Maģistra darbs atspoguļo, kad neskatoties uz saimneku bargo attieksmi pret vergiem, ģimenei vienalgatika atvēlēta galvenā loma Afro-Amerikāņu dzīvēs un vienlīdz arī eksistēja liela vēlme atbrīvoties no verdzības. Vergu ģimenes tēla atspoguļošana ir lielā mērā atkarīga no autora izvirzītā mērķa un ieceres, kādā veidā literārais darbs sasniedz savu mērķa auditoriju.

The paper investigates the image and role of family in the narratives of African-American ex-slaves. It gives an overview of the history of slavery from the antiquity to the nineteenth century, showing that the so-called “peculiar institution” of the southern States was not unprecendented. However, in its scale and the attitude to its subject, in the perversions it caused in the psychology of both slaves and masters, slavery of the United States was somewhat unique. The paper demonstrates that, in spite of the slave-owner efforts to severe family ties among slaves, family continued to play an important role in the lives of African-Americans, free and enslaved equally. The depiction of family in narratives, however, depended on the goal and intended readership of the ex-slave writings.
