Abstract

Bakalaura darba tēma ir Džonatana Swifta dzejas izpēte. Šī tēma tika izvēlēta sakarā ar dzejas nozīmīgumu Džonatana Swifta literārās karjeras sākumā. Neskatoties uz Apgaismības laikmetā pieaugošo noveles žanra un prozas popularitāti, dzeja saglabāja nozīmīgu lomu kā izglītoto sabiedrības slāņu ietekmējoša literārā forma. Tādejādi, Džonatana Swifta un pārējo viņa laikabiedru nolūks rakstot dzeju, bija izglītot pastāvošo sabiedrību. Šī bakalaura darba mērķis ir pētīt un analizēt Džonatana Swifta dzejoļus atsevišķos viņa dzīves periodos, lai noskaidrotu viņa ieguldījumu 18. gadsimta angļu literatūrā. Bakalaura darba autore studē Apgaismības laikmeta ieviestās pārmaiņas, akcentē galvenos Augusta laikmeta rakstnieku un satīras aspektus, kā arī analizē nozīmīgākos Džonatana Swifta dzejoļus. The theme of the Bachelor Paper is the study of Jonathan Swift’s Poetry. The choice of this theme was determined by the significance of poetry as the starting point of Jonathan Swift’s literary career. In spite of the growing popularity of the novel genre and prose during the Age of Reason, poetry remained an important and influential literary form of the educated classes. Therefore, Jonathan Swift and other writers of his time, wrote poetry with the aim to educate the existing society. The goal of the present Bachelor Paper is to research and analyse Jonathan Swift’s poems of particular periods of his life in order to clarify his contribution to the 18th century English literature. The author of the present paper studies changes introduced by the Age of Reason, shows the main aspects of the Augustan writers, the form of satire, and analyses the main poems written by Jonathan Swift.
