Atslēgvārdi: lasīšanas izpratne, lasīšanas prasmes un stratēģijas, shēmas teorija, Blūma taksonomija The development of learners’ reading comprehension is a topical issue in the process of language learning. Teaching materials take invaluable role in the development of reading comprehension, thus they must be successfully designed to ensure the development of learners’ reading comprehension. Therefore, the goal of the present Master theses is to design teaching materials for A2 level learners to develop their reading comprehension applying Bloom’s taxonomy and the schema theory. To reach this goal, a case study was selected as a research method. The research data was collected via questionnaires, piloting of the designed materials and testing. The results of the research show that all the learners have improved their reading comprehension as well their strategic competence and cognitive skills. The process of the development of learners’ reading comprehension is time consuming, but important in language learning.
