Abstract

Mūsdienās tāds apgalvojums, kā Dzintars – Latvijas kultūras simbols šķietami neprasa nekādus paskaidrojumus un tiek pieņemts par pašsaprotamu nacionālās identitātes sastāvdaļu. Ikdienā dzintars sastopams pavīdam kā vārds kādā nosaukumā vai rota suvenīrveikaliņā, taču kopumā sabiedrībā nav skaidra priekšstata par to, kur rodama dzintara īpašā saikne ar Latviju un latviešu nāciju, kā tā veidojusies un, par spīti dažādiem vēstures notikumu pavērsieniem un paaudžu nomaiņām, saglabāta nesarauta. Sīkāk pievēršoties zīmīgāko un laikā noturīgāko dzintara prakšu – dzintarapstrādes, dzintara lingvistisko lietojumu un Dzintarzemes simbolisma - veidošanās gaitas izpētei, šis kultūrģeogrāfiskais pētījums izgaismo dzintara nozīmības Latvijā veidošanos un pārmantošanos 20. gadsimta notikumu dinamikā līdztekus nacionālās identitātes konstruēšanas norisēm.

The title of the master thesis is „Cultural Geographies of Amber in Latvia”. Amber - symbol of Latvia’s culture is a statement which is often used in contemporary Latvia without any consideration and seemingly has been adopted as a self-evident element of the national identity just as the name Amberland is referred to the whole territory of Latvia. In everyday life amber can be noticed flashing as a word in some title or a craft in a souvenir shop. However, there are not commonly known places where amber can be easily found in Latvia. This is the main reason why the notion about the special link between amber, territory of Latvia and Latvian nation stays rather blurred as well as the understanding of how it has developed and kept continuous despite different turns of historical events and changing generations.
