The promotion paper was devoted to studying the management of career education in comprehensive schools of Latvia in the context of forming the competence of pupils’ career management. In the course of the research, a pattern of managing the support system of career education at comprehensive schools was formed and practically assessed, with its theoretical basis being the understanding of career education as a system in the development of individuals’ careers, which also serves as a tool for perfecting the management of career education by promoting a systematic management of career education and creating, as well as implementing a coherent policy of career education at schools in the process of forming the competence of pupils’ career management....
The promotion paper was devoted to studying the management of career education in comprehensive schools of Latvia in the context of forming the competence of pupils’ career management. MANAGEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS IMPROVEMENT OF PUPILS IN CAREER EDUCATION IN LATVIA ANNOTATION The promotional paper “Management of Professional Interests Improvement of Pupils in Career Education in Latvia” has been developed with the purpose to research and scientifically substantiate possibilities of improving professional interests of pupils in career education in Latvia. Research organization of the promotional paper has been formed by considering the theoretical viewpoints regarding theories of forming professional interests, career development theories. On the basis of the performed analysis of the possible development scenarios of career education, formation of professional interests in career education has been explained, in accordance with today’s requirements. The performed research will substantially expand comprehension about necessity to form professional interests of pupils and its improvement in career education in Latvia. The promotional paper is developed at the Faculty of Pedagogy, Psychology and Art of the University of Latvia. Volume of the paper is 175 pages, it comprises 19 tables and 33 figures. Summary of Doctoral Thesis „Improving Student Support to Reduce the Dropout Rate from Studies in Higher Education Institutions in Latvia” The purpose of the doctoral thesis is to determine the ways of improving support for students to decrease the dropout rate in higher education in Latvia. By using extensive research, the thesis offers analysis of student dropping out from studies in higher education institutions in Latvia: reasons, intentions, and decisions for the dropout from studies. Research reveals correlation between intentions of the discontinuation of studies, satisfaction with studies, study choice motivation and professional identity. Study support model created in the process of research outlines various methods of support for students, of which the most important would be the student guidance and counselling system for studies. Thesis evaluates the current problems in existing guidance and counselling system for students in higher education institutions and proves the role of support for students in successful continuation of studies and in decreasing the dropout rate from studies. Based on theoretical findings and practical research, proposals for improving study guidance activities have been developed.
