Napoleon is one of the most influential personalities of the nineteenth century. His idea of a united Europe made impact on German territory and its population, including Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who in 1806 saw the French troops march in Weimar. With Napoleons invasion come many changes in politics and in many people's daily lives, so the goal of the Bachelor thesis is to find out how Napoleon was characterized by Goethe and his contemporaries, namely the German intellectuals, works. As Goethe was the most powerful writer in his time, his views on historical events, starting from the French Revolution, is considered to be very important, since with the chaos in France started Napoleon's political career. At the end of the Bachelor thesis was concluded that Goethe admired the French emperor and saw in an over gifted person, which no one could emulate. Goethe's contemporaries’ opinions were divided - some believed Napoleon was a tyrant, others saw a hero and liberator.
