Informācijas tehnoloģiju integrēšana Kanādas kultūras studijās

Abstract

Latvijas Universitātes, Moderno valodu fakultātes Anglistikas nodaļa studiju programmā ir iekļauti jauni studiju kursi, kuros tiek izmantotas IKT (Informācijas Komunikācijas Tehnoloģijas), lai pilnveidotu valodu studijas, padziļinātu interesi par jaunajiem studiju kursiem, lai rezultātā uzlabotos svešvalodas zināšanu līmenis. Šī maģistra darba mērķis bija izpētīt vai autentiskie Interneta materiāli, kas tika izmantoti Valodu Meklējuma Aktivitātes (LanguageQuest Activity, LQA) izveidē, kas paredzēta Kanādas kultūras studiju kursā, var pilnveidot angļu valodas zināšanas, datora prasmes, kā arī padziļināt studentu mērķvalodas prasmes un kultūras kompetenci. Pētījuma ietvēra laika posmu no 2003. līdz 2007.gadam, kurā gaitā tika veikta studentu LQA pirms un pēcaptaujas rezultātu kvalitatīva deskriptīva analīze un iegūto datu statistiskā apstrāde. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka LU Moderno valodu fakultātes Anglistikas nodaļas studentiem ir pozitīva attieksme IKT lietošanu valodu studijās. Pētījuma rezultāti parāda, ka ir nepieciešams turpināt vērst plašāku pētījumu par LQA izmantošanu Latvijas un citas Baltijas valstu augstskolās. The English Language Department, the Faculty of Modern Languages (LU), has introduced several new courses, using Information Communication Technology (ICT) in order to facilitate language studies, deepen students’ interest in offered courses and, therefore, raise their level of language knowledge. The purpose of the present study is to explore if authentic Internet materials used in the design of the LanguageQuest Activity (LQA), for its application in the course Canadian Culture Studies, can develop the English language and computer skills, deepen students’ cultural awareness as well as explore their attitude to ICT implementation in their studies. The longitudinal action research took place from 2003 to 2007, which included qualitative descriptive analysis of the students’ needs, statistical measurement of the LQA piloting results and comparative descriptive analysis of the post-piloting questionnaires. The research has shown that BSP students of English Philology, Faculty of Modern Languages (UL) are positive towards technology-applied studies and they have enhanced their English language skills and cultural awareness. The results of the study show the necessity to carry out the field research on LQA implementation at tertiary level institutions in Latvia and other Baltic States.
