The present paper discusses the ways and means of developing vocational school learners’ presentation skills. The research paper aims at investigating the role of effective presentations in increasing the students’ motivation and confidence as foreign language users. The theoretical part deals with the definitions and the features of a successful presentation, its preparation, delivery and reviewing and discusses the importance of assessing the learners’ needs before giving the task for them and while completing it. The research method applied in the study is the action research, which consists of six steps: reflection, exploration, planning, acting and researching, analyzing and reviewing. It relates theory to practice by evaluating the learners’ needs, observing and recording the students’ presentations, selecting the teaching material, conducting the lessons, and analysing the tapescripts, questionnaires and feedback.
The data obtained serve as a basis for the conclusion that if learners are exposed to practising presentations that are relevant and appropriate to their professional and study needs, they are likely to enhance their confidence and maintain motivation to learn the foreign language and develop their presentation skills.
Key words: a successful presentation, a needs analysis, action research.
