This process is analytically captured as the performance of ethnicity. The research focuses also on the main dance performance in Song and Dance festival as an event within the practice of folk dance that mobilizes ethnicity.
The aim of the research is to find out how social relations, hierarchies and discourses of the folk dance practice construct Latvian identity.
The author argues that the construction of identity is characterized as dynamic and heterogeneous and the practice of the scenic dance is shaped by specific contexts, situations and relations within which its participants negotiate the meaning of the ethnic identity, and confirm it both cognitively and bodily.
