Atslēgvārdi: Anšlavs Eglītis, trimda, laiktelpa, motīvs, Amerika The motif of America occasionally appears in early Eglītis works. In the exile short fiction written by Anšlavs Eglītis, the motif of America is very important. It functions as a united chronotope and it is possible to fragment it as a motif of American people and motif of American social life and traditions etc. Mostly America in exile short fiction is presented from point of view of a Latvian exile, thus accentuating the unusual and incomprehensible. For a Latvian exile, American people, cities, nature, traditions and customs are in direct contrast with the experience, that was acquired in Latvia and Europe. America in Eglītis 50ies short fiction is analysed as a chronotope. Several chronotopes can be integrated into each other, in wider sense chronotope is exile, which includes generalized chronotope of 50ies, that in turn can include suburban chronotope, road chronotope, apartment house chronotope, shop chronotope etc.
