Sera Artura Konana Doila loma detektīvžanra attīstībā

Abstract

Mūsdienās Seru Artūru Konanu Doilu lielākā daļa lasītāju atminas sakarā ar mūžam atmiņā paliekošā tēla - Šerloka Holmsa radīšanu, taču viņa sarakstīto darbu skaits ir krietni lielāks. Viņa darbi ir ietver arī dzeju, lugas, pamfletus, daiļliteratūru, noveles, darbus par spiritisma ideju, kā arī darbus par karu un armiju. Grāmatas par Šerloka Holmsa piedzīvojumiem ir populārākie šī lieliskā autora meistardarbi, kas turklāt atnesa viņam slavu. Un ne velti. Šīs grāmata joprojām ir vienas no visvairāk pārdotajām visā pasaulē, un to autors ir viens no retajiem joprojām aktuālajiem un apspriestajiem pagātnes autoriem, kas nebija ne dumpinieks, ne barvedis, ne karavadonis. Šī darba mērķis ir izpētīt līdzekļus un veidus, kādus autors izmantojis, lai radītu noslēpumu un izraisītu lasītājā šaubas un neziņu par notiekošo un to kas sagaidāms. Piemēri, kas izmantoti šai bakalaura darbā, lai ilustrētu autora savdabīgo stilu, ir no īsajiem stāstiem „Inženiera īkšķis”, „Raibā lenta”, „Rudo apvienība” un romāna „Četru zīme”. Šī darba mērķis ir izpētīt līdzekļus un metodes ar kuriem autoram izdevies radīt noslēpumu un izraisīt lasītājā neziņu. Izdarītie secinājumi pamatoti ar romāna un īso stāstu rūpīgu lasīšanu un pieejamā teorētiskā materiāla par šo tēmu izpēti. Tas nozīmē – dažādu autora biogrāfijas interpretāciju izpēti, pieejamās literatūras par detektīvžanra attīstību analīzi, kā arī materiālu par laikmetu un periodu, kad stāsti un romāns tika uzrakstīti izpēti.

Nowadays Arthur Conan Doyle is most remembered for creating the eternal hero – Sherlock Holmes. However, his bibliography extends much further. His works include also verse, plays, pamphlets, fictions, novels, works on spiritualism as well as works on war and the army. The books about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes being the most popular pieces of art created by this marvellous author brought him fame. And not in vain. Nowadays his books are still rating in the top ten and he is one of the very few figures still much discussed though not having been a rebel, ringleader nor a military commander. The aim of this work is to investigate the ways and means by which suspense and mystery has been created. The examples in the present research paper have been taken from the short stories “The Engineer’s Thumb”, “The Red-headed League”, “The Speckled Band”, the novel “The Sign of the Four” and used to illustrate the author’s individual style. The conclusions drawn are based on the close reading of the novel as well as the short stories and the investigation of the theoretical material available on the subject under discussion. This means – the study of different interpretations of the biography of the author, the analysis of the theoretical material concerning the development of the detective fiction and the study of the material about the century and period of time when the short stories as well as the novel were created.
