Abstract

Emīlijas Brontes vienīgais romāns “Kalnu aukas” ir nozīmīgs pasaules literatūrā vairāku iemeslu dēļ – tas lauž Viktorijas laika pieņēmumu, ka rakstniecība ir domāta tikai vīriešiem, tas vienlaikus aptver vairākus literatūras virzienus, it kā censtos izvairīties no konkrētas klasifikācijas, kā arī pierāda, ka radošam prātam nepastāv nekādas robežas, kad jāattēlo cilvēku jūtas. Šis bakalaura darbs ir veltīts detalizētai varoņu raksturojuma, tēmu un simbolu analīzei. Tā mērķis ir pierādīt, ka varoņu raksturojums, tēmas un simboli nav atdalāmi cits no cita, jo ir tik cieši saistīti, ka darba analīze nav iespējama nepieskaroties katrai no šīm grupām.

Emily Brontë’s only novel Wuthering Heights is important in the world literature from several aspects: it breaks the Victorian conviction that writing literature is only for men, it effortlessly straddles several literary styles as if trying to avoid certain classification and most importantly it proves that a creative mind knows no boundaries when it comes to depiction of one’s emotions. This Bachelor Paper is dedicated to detailed analysis of the way characters are portrayed in the novel, the themes that appear throughout it and the symbols that intensify the meaning of the novel. The aim of the paper is to prove that the character portrayal, the themes and the symbols are inseparable in terms of literary analysis of Wuthering Heights because of the way they are inter-connected.
