The main purpose of the diploma paper is to explore the influence of the use of games and role-plays as teaching techniques on the development of motivation at secondary school.

Furthermore, the main conditions which are necessary to impact motivation in language learning were described. At first, a questionnaire was designed to study the needs and interests of the target group of learners, including their attitude to role-plays and games. As a second stage, role-plays and games were selected and piloted by the author. Finally, the author analyzed the influence of the piloted activities on the learners’ motivation.
It was concluded that role-plays and games may have a positive influence on the development of motivation at secondary school.
