Abstract

This research aims at comparison of two screen adaptations of William Shakespeare’s play `Hamlet`. The analysis takes four main comparative directions – psychoanalytical approach, theme of politics, traditions in representation, character comparison. , The corresponding literature on each comparative direction was studied; further, the comparative analysis of two films was fulfilled. This research provides a miscellaneous comparison of two films and explains why certain aspects of the play are present in one adaptation, but absent in another. This research also focuses on the most plausible theories, concerning the interpretation of characters, in order to determine, which of these interpretations can be seen in both adaptations. The findings show, that two adaptations differ in many aspects, both visually and in the way directors showed their interpretation of the content of the play. All research questions are answered, however, the volume of the present research doe
