Idiomu tulkošanas stratēģijas

Abstract

Idiomas ir kultūru raksturojošas parādības, kas grezno valodu. Tās tiek bieži lietotas ne tikai mutvārdu runā, bet arī rakstos, piemēram, romānos. Tiem ir jābūt ar personīgu skatījumu uz dzīvi, ar dabisku izteiksmes veidu un, galvenais, tiem jāspēj pārliecināt lasītāju par savu patiesumu un īstumu, bet, lai tas izdotos, tiek izmantoti stilistiski tonēti vārdi un tēlainie izteiksmes līdzekļi. Tādējādi idiomas ir ne tikai valodu apguvēju, bet arī tulkotāju redzeslokā. Dotā pētījuma mērķis bija veikt salīdzinošu diskursa analīzi P.G. Vudhauza romānu Labs i’, Džīvs! un Drošu dūšu, Džīvs! angliskajām un latviskajām versijām, lai identificētu idiomas, izpētītu to tulkošanas stratēģijas un izmēģinātu Rāmju teorijas piemērotību. Tika izmantotas teorētiskas un empīriskas pētījuma metodes. Tika analizēta literatūra gan par tulkošanas teorijām, gan par idiomu definēšanu un klasificēšanu, gan arī par tulkošanas problēmām un stratēģijām, kas kopā deva teorētisko pamatu empīriskajam pētījumam. Identificētās idiomas tika grupētas pēc stratēģijām, kas izmantotas to tulkošanā, un dažas tika detalizētāk analizētas, izmantojot Rāmju teoriju. Tika atklāts, ka par spīti dažiem Rāmju teorijas trūkumiem, tās ieguldījums idiomu tulkošanā ir vērā ņemams un to vajadzētu attīstīt tālāk. Tātad, tika secināts, ka Rāmju teoriju vajadzētu izstrādāt sīkāk, lai to padarītu ērtāku idiomu tulkošanai. Idioms are culture specific phenomena that adorn language. They are frequently used not only in spoken discourse, but also in the written discourse, for example in novels. They are supposed to convey personal attitude to life, naturalness of expression and, overall, persuade the reader about their genuineness and authenticity, but to achieve it emotive words and stylistic devices are employed, among them also idioms. Consequently, they are of particular interest not only for the language learners, but also for the translators. The present research has been conducted with the purpose of doing a comparative discourse analysis of P.G. Wodehouse’s novels Right Ho, Jeeves and Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves in English and in Latvian in order to identify idioms, investigate their translation strategies and test the suitability of Frame theory. Both theoretical and empirical research methods were employed. Studies of relevant literature pertaining to translation theory and issues of definition and classification of idioms, as well as idiom translation problems and strategies were undertaken in order to provide theoretical basis for the empirical research. The identified idioms were grouped according to their translation strategies and some were further analysed using Frame theory. It was discovered that despite some deficiencies of the Frame theory its contribution to idiom translation is noteworthy and should be pursued. Thus, it was concluded that Frame theory should be elaborated to make it more convenient to idiom translation.
