dc.description.abstract | Metaphor is a souring subject of the language. Nowadays, people are surrounded by a great amount of metaphors and advertisements, and consequently metaphors in advertisements. The aim of the thesis is to compare the source domains of the conceptual metaphors that have been identified in 20 sport advertisements of the four most recent Olympic Games in Beijing, Vancouver, London and Sochi. The research was performed by the application of qualitative research methods: literature review and discourse analysis. The findings suggest that the significant reasons why particular source domains are applied are emotional appeal and exaggeration, sports language, the product or service advertised in the commercial. To conclude, metaphors were included in the analysed commercials mainly to enrich the language, to make it more attractive and appealing. Fewer as expected or no metaphors in the source domain were connected with the type of the Olympic Games, the host country, its cultural traits and the producer of the commercial.
