Tulkotāja statuss Latvijas darba tirgū

Abstract

Šis maģistra darbs ir empīrisks pētījums, kas veltīts Latvijas rakstiskās tulkošanas tirgus izpētei, tai skaitā jautājumam par tulkotāja statusu darba tirgū. Šā darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, kādi cilvēki (pēc noteiktiem kritērijiem) Latvijā nodarbojas ar tulkošanu un kāda ir viņu motivācija. Šai sakarā tika anketēti 54 tulkotāji. Tulkotāji atbildēja uz jautājumiem, saistītiem ar izglītību, kompetencēm, nodarbošanos un dažiem personīgiem jautājumiem. No aptaujas anketas analīzes rezultātiem tika noskaidrots, ka pārsvarā tulkotājiem nav specializētās izglītības, tomēr lielākā daļa plāno to iegūt, tajā pašā laikā neuzskatot, ka tā viņiem un tulkotājiem kopumā būtu obligāti nepieciešama. Apjautātajiem tulkotājiem ir pareizi priekšstati par tulkotājam nepieciešamajām kompetencēm, tomēr viņu sociālā kompetence vēl nav pietiekoši attīstīta, jo tulkotāji, kuri pārsvarā strādā mājās, neuzskata, ka citiem cilvēkiem var būt svarīga loma viņu darbā. Lielākā respondentu daļa atbildēja, ka viņi pastāvīgi nenodarbojas ar tulkošanu, bet tomēr gandrīz katrs atzīmēja, kas viņu motivē tulkot. Atbildes uz šo jautājumu, kā arī uz to, kas tulkotājiem šķiet visgrūtākais viņu profesijā, pārsvarā sakrita. Darbā tiek secināts, ka no vienas puses tulkotāja profesija sniedz zināmu brīvību (nav priekšniecības, brīvs darba grafiks, kurš sniedz iespēju apvienot vairākus darbus un amatus utt.), bet no otras puses, tā ir liela tulkotāja atbildība un nogurdinošs darbs. Ne visi, kas nodarbojas ar tulkošanu apzinās šo atbildību un tulko bez nepieciešamās izglītības un kompetencēm. Latvijā tulkošanas tirgus vēl nav tik labi attīstīts, lai kontrolētu šo procesu, tādēļ par tulkotāju var kļūt jebkurš, kurš uzskata, ka viņam ir pietiekami labas svešvalodu zināšanas.

This master's thesis is an empirical study devoted to Latvian written translation market research, which includes the issue of translator's status in the labor market. This work aims to explore the type of people (according to stated criteria) who are engaged in translating in Latvia and their motivation. In this regard, 54 translators were questioned. Translators answered questions related to education, competencies, occupation and some personal issues. Results of the questionnaires showed that most of the translators do not have specialized translator’s degree, however, majority intend to get it in the future, and at the same time considering the degree not particularly necessary to them and to translators in general. Respondents have right comprehension of translator’s competencies, however, their social competence is not sufficiently developed yet, as translators who mostly work at home do not believe that other people can play an important role in their work. Most respondents replied that they do translations independently, but almost every person noted that he or she gets motivated to translate. Answers to these questions, as well as what translators considered to be the most difficult part of their profession mostly match. The paper concludes that, on the one hand, translator’s profession provides some kind degree of freedom (no superiors, a free schedule that gives an opportunity to combine several jobs and positions, etc.). On the other hand, it is a great responsibility and exhausting work, because not everyone who is engaged in translations is aware of this responsibility and translate without required training and competencies. The Latvian translation market is not quite well-developed yet to control this process so that anyone who believes he has enough good knowledge of foreign languages can become a translator.
