Latviešu trimda Lielbritānijā (1945.-1960.gadi)

Abstract

Bakalaura darbs veltīts latviešu trimdas Lielbritānijā atspoguļojumam, kopš Otrā pasaules kara beigām līdz 60. gadu beigām. Pētījums balstās uz vēstures literatūru un avotiem, kas raksturo latviešu kopienas tēlu un izvērsto darbību Apvienotajā Karalistē. Darba mērķis ir apkopot un izvērtēt vēstures literatūru, avotus par trimdas latviešu sabiedrības attīstības tendencēm, darbību un mērķiem Lielbritānijā (1945.- 1960. gadi). Darba gaitā tiek pētīti latviešu trimdinieku dzīves apstākļi; galvenie trimdas notikumi; trimdinieku darbība Lielbritānijā; kā arī apkopots viņu ieguldījums politiskajā, sociālajā un kultūras jomā. Pētījums liecina, ka latviešu trimdas sabiedrības attīstības tendences Lielbritānijā, attiecīgajā laika posmā, bija samērā līdzīgas ar citām bēgļu kopienām Rietumos. Latviešu inteliģence centās saglabāt, gan attīstīt un pat mākslīgi stimulēt nacionālo kultūru svešumā, lai tā neizšķīstu, bet turpinātu uzturēt brīvas Latvijas valstiskuma ideju.

The research of the Bachelor's paper is devoted to the reflection of Latvian exile in the Great Britain, since end of World War II to 1960s. Research is based on the study of the history and literature sources, which characterizes image of Latvian community and its main activities in United Kingdom. The aim of the thesis is to collect and evaluate the literature on history and the sources describing the society development and conditions of the Latvian exile, the activities and aims of the exiles in the United Kingdom (1945- 1960s). During the course of the research, the living conditions of the Latvian exiles were investigated, as well as the main exile events, the activities of the exiles in the Great Britain and their contribution to the political, social and cultural fields were summarized. Research shows, that Latvian exile societies evolution tendency were similar with other refugee communities in the West. Latvian intelligence tried to save, even develop and stimulate national culture in exile that it wouldn't dissolve, but maintain the idea of free Latvia.
