The master thesis "The metaphor in the treatment of the economic crisis in the Spanish and Latvian press. Comparative analysis" is dedicated to phenomenon of conceptual metaphor in a political discourse in the context of the economic crisis. The aim of this study is to investigate if there can be found any common features of using metaphors in Latvian and Spanish press when referring to the recent (2008-2013) economic crisis in the two countries, and what is that they have in common. By applying the theory of conceptual metaphor of Lakoff and Johnson (1980) and carrying out empirical analysis it was found that the Spanish and Latvian press in more than 90% of cases were using the same conceptual metaphors and majority of them were structural, conventional, simple and based in the environmental experience.
