The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to investigate the use of conceptual metaphors in financial discourse, i.e. in the articles on the stock exchange market that were selected from the following internet sources: The Economist and New York Times. The theoretical part provides the literature review on figurative language, metaphor and journalistic style. The empirical part of the work is based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of conceptual metaphors applying the theory of Lakoff and Johnson and the model by Pragglejaz Group. Types of conceptual metaphors and source domains are the central focus of the qualitative analysis. The results show that the selected articles contain different types of conceptual metaphors with the most common source domains ’movement, war, human, animal’.
