Muiža Sāras Votersas romānos “Krāpniece” un “Mazais svešinieks”

Abstract

Šis bakalaura darbs ir veltīts novelēm Mazais Svešinieks (2009) un Krāpniece (2002), kuru autore ir britu rakstniece Sāra Votersa un lauku māju nozīmju interpretāciju. Abas noveles tika starptautiski atzītas. Darba galvenais mērķis ir aplūkot lauku mājas simbola nozīmi un salīdzināt, kas ir kopīgs un atšķirīgs abās novelēs. Pētījumā izmantotas tādas metodes kā teorija par stāstījumu, teorija par Viktorijas un Neo-Viktorijas laikmetu un Gotikas literatūra, teksta analīze un teksta interpretācija par abām novelēm. Šī pētījuma rezultāti parādīja, ka lauku māju apraksts, kuru izveidoja Sāra Voters novelēs Mazais Svešinieks un Krāpniece palīdz lasītājam labāk saprast varoņus un galvenās noveļu idejas. Secinājumi parāda lauku māju aprakstīšanas svarīgumu abās novelēs.

The present thesis is devoted to the novels The Little Stranger (2009) and Fingersmith (2002) by the British writer Sarah Waters, focusing on the representation of the country houses in them. Both novels have been critically and popularly acclaimed. The goal of the bachelor paper is to compare the representations of the English country houses in Sarah Waters’ novels in order to find similarities and differences between them. Methods applied to the research include narratology, theoretical materials on Victorian and Neo-Victorian literature and Gothic literature. It also includes text analysis, close reading and interpretation of the two novels. The results of the current research reveal that the descriptions of places, in particular the country houses, created by Sarah Waters in the novels Fingersmith and The Little Stranger help the reader to have a better understanding of the characters and main ideas of the novels. The conclusions of the paper emphasize the significance of using the country house setting in both novels.
