Apvienoto Nāciju Organizācijas loma Tuvo Austrumu stabilitātes nodrošināšanā no 1956. līdz 1979.gadam

Abstract

Apvienoto Nāciju Organizācija (ANO) tika dibināta 1945. gadā ar mērķi nodrošināt pasaulē mieru un veicināt starpvalstu sadarbību. Savas pastāvēšanas pirmajās desmitgadēs tā saskārās ar būtiskiem izaicinājumiem gan organizācijas iekšienē, gan starptautiskajā politikā. Aukstā kara gados Tuvo Austrumu reģions bija īpaši nestabils un potenciāli bīstams starptautiskajam mieram, reģiona jaunajām valstīm parādoties ANO un lielvalstu politiķu dienas kārtībā ar satraucošu regularitāti. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir novērtēt ANO nozīmi Tuvo Austrumu stabilitātes nodrošināšanā no 1956. līdz 1979. gadam, pievēršot uzmanību gan diplomātiskajiem centieniem, gan miera uzturētāju darbībai reģionā. Pētījumā tiks arī novērtēta ANO kā mediatora loma ne tikai reģiona valstu vidū, bet arī globālās spriedzes mazināšanā ar Tuvajiem Austrumiem saistītos jautājumos.

The United Nations (UN) was established in 1945 with an aim to maintain worldwide peace and foster international cooperation. In its first decades the organisation faced considerable challenges both from within and in the international arena as a whole. A region which was particularly unstable and detrimental to international peace in the Cold War years was the Middle East, appearing in the agendas of the UN and the global superpowers with distressing regularity. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the role of the UN in ensuring and maintaining the stability of the Middle East from 1956 until 1979. The author will look both at the organisation’s diplomatic and peacekeeping attempts on a regional level as well as its role as a mediator between superpowers in their strife for dominance over the Middle East.
