Modālo darbības vārdu un tiem pielīdzināmo vārdu un frāžu lietojums laikrakstā „Baltic Times”

Abstract

Darba mērķis ir izpētīt, kā tiek izmantoti modālie darbības vārdi un tiem pielīdzināmie vārdi un frāzes. Svarīgi ir arī analizēt teoriju par diskursa, žanra un mediju diskursa būtību. Darbs palielina izpratni par modālo darbības vārdu un tiem pielīdzināmo vārdu un frāžu lietojumu, attiecībā uz to formām un funkcijām. Kvantitatīvā un kvalitatīvā analīzes tika izvēlētas kā galvenās pētījuma metodes. Kvantitatīvās analīzes rezultāti liecina, ka modālas formas bieži tika izmantotas „Baltic Times” laikrakstos. Visbiežāk izmantotās formas bija modālie darbības vārdi will un would. Kvalitatīvās analīzes rezultāti atklāj, ka visbiežāk sastopamās modālo un daļēji modālo darbības vārdu [semi-modals] funkcija ir prognozēšana, kas balstīta uz pieņēmumu, iespējamību un pienākumu.

The goal of the present paper was to analyze the use of modals and modal verb-related words and phrases. It also aimed at investigating the theory on the notion of discourse, genre, media discourse, as well as the concept of modality and its forms and functions. The paper increases the knowledge and understanding of the usage of modals and modal verb-related words and phrases, according to their forms and functions. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were chosen as the main research methods. The results of the quantitative analysis showed that the modal forms were frequently used in the articles of the newspaper ‘Baltic Times’. The most common forms were modal verbs will and would. After implying the qualitative analysis, the results revealed that the most common meanings of modal and semi-modal verbs were prediction, namely prediction based on assumption, possibility and obligation.
