Vēstījums un pilsēta Pītera Akroida romānos “Dens Līno un Laimhausas Golems” un “Doktora Dī māja”

Abstract

Pilsētas var tikt aplūkotas ne tikai no ģeogrāfiskās lokācijas skatupunkta. Tās var apskatīt arī caur sociālās struktūras perspektīvu. Daudzi literatūras autori izmanto tādu mākslinieciskos izteiksmes līdzekli kā personifikācija savos darbos, kur, piemēram, pilsētām tiek piedēvētas cilvēka īpašības un tās tiek izmantotas kā stāsta varoņi iekš darba vēstījuma. Viens no autoriem, kas izmantojis šo māksliniecisko izteiksmes līdzekli un aplūkojis pilsētu no dažādiem skatupunktiem ir Pīters Akroids, kur viņš savos romānos, kā arī citos darbos apraksta Anglijas galvaspilsētu Londonu. Šis pētījums ir veltīts stāstījuma veidu analīzei iekš Pītera Akroida romāniem „Dens Līno un Laimhausas Golems” un „Doktora Dī māja”. Pētījuma mērķis ir analizēt kā Akroida romānu stāstījums nodod vēstījumu par Londonu un tās kultūru. Darbā izmantotās metodes ietver sevī teorētisku literatūras apskatu par tādām tēmām kā mitoloģija un stāstījuma veidu teorija, kā arī teksta analīzi. Rezultāti rāda, ka abos Akroida romānos tikuši izmantoti vairāki stāstījuma veidi, kas liek lasītājam aplūkot pilsētu no dažādām perspektīvām, turklāt, savstarpēja saikne starp pagātni un tagadni, ka arī mistērijas klātbūtne pilsētā veicina lasītāja izpratni par Londonu šo romānu ietvaros. Secinājumi rāda, ka Akroids ataino Londonu kā drūmu un noslēpumainu vietu, kur satiekas un apvienojās pārdabiskas parādības un mīti.

The city in ‘Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem’ and ‘The House of Doctor Dee’ is examined not only as a geographical location, but also as a social structure. Many literary works explore cities and represent them as characters of these works. All fictions and non-fictions of Peter Ackroyd are connected with London in various ways. The present research is devoted to the examination of Peter Ackroyd’s narrative approach to representing London in his novels ‘Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem’ and ‘The House of Doctor Dee’. The goal of the research is to examine how the narrative in Ackroyd’s novels contributes to the representation and cultural construction of London. The methods used in the research are close reading and interpretation of the novels, as well as text analysis in the light of the theory on narratology and mythology. The results of the research show that both ‘Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem’ and ‘The House of Doctor Dee’ consist of several narratives which describe the city from various perspectives. Moreover, the interrelations between the past and the present and the sense of mystery in the city contribute to its representation in the novels. It is concluded that on the basis of the narrative approach used by Ackroyd, London is represented as a rather dark and mysterious place, where all supernatural powers and myths celebrate their reunion.
