Tulkotāja profesijas statuss Latvijā

Abstract

Līdz šim ir veikts neliels skaits pētījumu par tulkošanas nozari, kuros pētīti tulkotāja profesijas sociālie aspekti, lai novērtētu profesijas statusu Latvijas darba tirgū. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir iegūt vispārēju informāciju par tulkotāja profesijas statusu Latvijā un noskaidrot, kādi ir tulkotāja profesijas statusu ietekmējošie faktori. Pētījuma ietvaros divu mēnešu ilgā periodā tika veikta anketēšana, lai noskaidrotu, vai tulkotāja profesija ir zema statusa profesija, kāds ir profesijas prestižs un to, kādi faktori ir ietekmējuši respondentu viedokli par tulkotāja profesijas statusu. Pētījuma mērķauditorija bija Latvijā dzīvojošie tulkotāji (arī latviešu tulkotāji, kas dzīvo ārzemēs) tulkošanas studenti un ar tulkošanu nesaistīti cilvēki. Anketēšanas rezultātā tika saņemtas 316 anketas, bet pētījumam tika izmantotas 314 anketas. Apkopojot anketēšanas rezultātus, tika secināts, ka Latvijā tulkotāja profesiju kopumā sabiedrība vērtē kā zema statusa profesiju (profesijai ir zems prestižs) un galvenie faktori, kas ir ietekmējuši sabiedrisko domu, ir sabiedrības priekšstati par zemu atalgojuma līmeni.

Until now only a small number of studies have been conducted in the area of translation that examines social aspects of translator's profession to assess its status in Latvia's labour market. The objective of this research is to obtain general information on translator's profession and inquire into the factors affecting the status of translator's profession. Within the research over a period of two months author carried survey to find out whether translator's profession is a low-status profession, is it prestigious and what kind of factors have affected the respondents' views on the status of translator's profession. The target audience of survey was translators living in Latvia (and Latvian translators living abroad as well), translation students and general public (people who are not working in translation area and are not studying translation). As a result of survey, 316 questionnaires were received, but 314 of them were used for the research. To sum up, the survey results, it was concluded that in general translator's profession in Latvian society is regarded as a low-status profession (the profession has low prestige) and the main factors which have affected the public opinion is the general public's perceptions of low renumeration level.
