Grafiskais romāns kā īpaša stāstījuma forma Nataniēla Vesta darbā “Siseņu diena”

Abstract

Šajā pētnieciskajā darbā tiek aplūkoti veidi kā detalizēti apraksti, jauna pieeja linearitātei un stāstījuma paņēmieni, proti, sadrumstalotība, montāža un vārdu izlaidums, jeb elipse, rada vizualitātes un gleznainības iespaidu modernista tekstā. Nataniēla Vesta romāns „Siseņu diena” ir piemērs tendencei iztēloties, ka teksta radīšanas paņēmienu izraisītie grafiskie efekti, modernisma literatūrā, veido novatorisku vizuāli-tekstuālu stāstījuma veidu, proti, tādu, kurš līdzinās filmai. Pētījuma mērķis ir noteikt kā romāna gleznainība palīdz autoram radīt jaunu stāstījuma veidu. Pētījumā iegūtie rezultāti var tik izmantoti tālākai literārā modernisma vēstures, kā arī Nataniēla Vesta modernista eksperimentu ar stāstījuma veidiem izpētei. Pētījums tika veikts ar detalizētas literārās analīzes palīdzību, kura tika realizēta no naratoloģiska skatupunkta. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka veids kā Nataniēls Vests stāsta stāstu sevī ietver vārdu un fotogrāfiju netradicionālu pielietojumu. Autors veido stāstu tā, lai tas tiktu uztverts trīs dimensijās. Dimensijas ir radītas pateicoties lasītāja vēlmei atgriezties pie jau iepazītām idejām un turpināt to izpēti.

This paper studies the ways in which the effects of visuality and pictorialness are generated in a modernist text, due to the use of detailed descriptions, new approaches to textual linearity and narrative techniques such as montage, fragmentation and ellipsis. The novel The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West is exemplary of this tendency towards imagining graphical effects of text-generation techniques in modernist literature to create an innovative visual-textual way of storytelling, namely, one that resembles a movie. The goal of this research is to determine how the graphicness of the novel assist the author in developing a new way of storytelling. The findings of this research could benefit further studies with regard to history of literary modernism and more specifically, Nathanael West’s modernist experimentation with ways of telling a story. This research was carried out by means of close literary analysis from narratological perspective. The results of this research manifest that West’s manner of telling a story involves an unconventional use of words as well as images. The author creates the story to be perceived as if being three-dimensional. The dimensions are created by the urge to come back to and further investigate the ideas introduced by the author.
