Ever since the first advertisement was created, multiple businesses have used it as the main promotional tool regardless of the products or services they offered. Recent years, however, have shown that advertisements are often ineffective and, thus, a different approach has to be taken to appeal to the prospective clients and persuade them to purchase a particular commodity. Accordingly, advertorials as an innovative form of advertising have become more and more popular, especially in the healthy food domain, and numerous studies have been devoted to the exploration of this hybrid genre. The aim of this paper was to analyse the generic macro-structure as well as the rhetorical patterns used to achieve the communicative purposes of 30 healthy food advertorials. The literature review allowed the author to come to a conclusion that advertorials are a mixture of two distinct genres, namely, advertisements and editorials. They express two general communicative purposes: to inform and to promote through the use of four rhetorical moves. The genre analysis demonstrated that there is still no clear homogeneity in the structure of advertorials as some steps might be combined together, carried out only partially, or optional. Furthermore, it has been concluded that advertorials tend to shift from being mainly informative to highly promotional. Nevertheless, it may be assumed that these are merely the peculiarities of the promotion of healthy food.
