The aim of the research paper “Raadi Cemetery in Tartu and Meža Cemetery in Riga: Headstones Inscriptions and Visual Fulfilment” is to contrast (compare) the textual and visual form of the mention of the dead in Latvia and Estonia. The contribution of this paper: translation and compering epitaphs written in different languages. Anthropologists and folklore researchers might be interested in this research paper. Tasks: to analyse how the mention of the dead is displayed in the culture theoreticians’ works, to describe and classify the materials collected in the process of cemetery researching, to compare the results obtained. Comparing the results turned out that there are many common features and many differences as well. Domination of images and laconic texts of the mention of the dead tradition are more in the Raadi cemetery. Conservative approach is seen in the choice of the texts and images in both cemeteries.
