Bachelor's work dealt with Jānis Akurater’s novels „Pēteris Danga” (1921) and „Ugunīgi ziedi”(1925) through the prism of sociology. The study contrasts literature and sociology, literature search of practicality, not only artistic value. The texts are analyzed on the basis of Anthony D. Smith five basic characteristics of national identity: 1) historical territory or fatherland; 2) common myths and with history associated memory; 3) the common culture; 4) equal rights of citizens and 5) joint economy. A novel analysis of the results reveals J.Akurater’s romantic idealism clashed with national beliefs and efforts to realize them in life. National identity problematic shows a plan of a high ambition level for the individual both in thought and word and deed.
