Astoņas no ķērpju sugām (Arthonia byssacea, A. leucopellaea, A, spadicea, A. vinosa, Menegazzia terebrata, Opegrapha vermicellifera, Pertusaria hemisphaerica, Sclerophora peronella) ir iekļautas Latvijas aizsargājamo sugu sarakstā, no kurām 4 ir sugas, kurām var izveidot mikroliegumus. No visiem identificētajiem aizsargājamiem ķērpjiem 85.00% (33 no 39 identifikācijām), bet no visiem konstatētajiem DMB indikatorsugu īpatņiem 90.00% (43 no 48 atradnēm) auga ārpus īpaši aizsargājamām dabas teritorijām. NMS ordinācija acīmredzami nodalīja mežaudzes divas grupās, balstoties uz reģioniem, kuros tās atradās. Kurzemē ir lielāka epifītisko ķērpju daudzveidība. Broad-leaved tree forests host a large diversity of epiphytic lichens, but this forest type is rare in Latvia. Epiphytic lichen diversity of broad-leaved trees mostly has been studied in protected areas but there is insufficient knowledge of the general distribution of epiphytic lichens outside the protected areas. The aim of this study was to realize the factors affecting epiphytic lichen diversity in broad-leaved forests in Latvia. Epiphitic lichen diversity in broad-leaved tree woodland has been studied in two regions of Latvia: Kurzeme and Zemgale. Altogether 68 lichen species were recorded on the 160 sampled trees of 11 tree species in 19 forest stands. Eight of the recorded lichen species (Arthonia byssacea, A. leucopellaea, A, spadicea, A. vinosa, Menegazzia terebrata, Opegrapha vermicellifera, Pertusaria hemisphaerica, Sclerophora peronella) are listed in the Latvian protected species list, of which 4 are area species for which microreserves can be established. Surprisingly, only two were listed in the Latvian Red Data Book, indicating that this list needs to be revised. Protected species contained 18 of the studied 19 stands, but only 3 of these stands occurred in protected areas. Quercus robur had the highest number of lichen species on the basal trunk. Among species characteristic of Woodland Key Habitats, Acrocordia gemmata was present on 67% of 11 sampled Betula pendula, Graphis scripta on 60% and Arthonia spadicea on 80% of 51 sampled Q. robur. Indicator species analysis showed significant preferences (p<0.05) of Woodland Key Habitat species for tree species such as A. gemmata for Populus tremula, A. spadicea for Fraxinus excelsior, Chaenotheca ferruginea for Pinus sylvestris, Lecanora chlarotera and Lecidella euphoria for Q. rubra and Pseudoschismatomma rufescens for Ulmus gabra. 85% of recorded occurences (33 of 39 records) of protected lichen species but 90% of recorded occurences (43 of 48 records) of Woodland Key Habitat species occurred outside of protected areas. NMS ordination obviously separated forest stands into two groups according to the region they were located in. Higher epiphytic lichen diversity is more common in Kurzeme region.
