Because of increased pollution of lead and its high toxicity in living organisms, it is very important to find an effective and practical using means to reduce its pollution. In the last time it focuses on naturally-occurring material as possible lead bundler. One of these is the vermicompost, which contains large amount of humic substances which have the ability to bind heavy metals, this property is associated with the vermicompost potential positive effect. The aim of this work is to find out, what is the effect of lead on corn (Zea mays) growth and physiological parameters and how they change with the addition of vermicompost in substrate, to determine whether the attached vermicompost reduces lead accumulation in the plant. In order to achieve the aim of work there was placed laboratory experiment with a lead and control variants without vermicompost (soil) and 10%, 20% and 30% vermicompost variants. During ontogenesis of corn identified changes of growth parameters, chlorophyll content and fluorescence indicator changes, fresh and dry weight of the plant parts as well as the content of lead in leaf and roots. Vermicompost reduce negative effects of lead, but not in all results it can see clearly. Vermicompost significantly reduces the lead accumulation in maize. The results show that vermicompost in 10% and 20% concentration is an effective means to reduce lead accumulation and toxicity in plants.
