The topic of bachelor thesis is "Ataturk’s alphabet and language reforms". It is studied and analyzed how Atatürk came to the power in Turkey, and the methods how he achieved planned changes and reforms in Turkey's cultural and social life. The topic is actual, because in Latvian there is not enough materials about the first president of Turkey, there is only one book about Mustafa Kemal written by Aleksandrs Grīns. It is possible to find many books and journals in Turkish on both Ataturk’s reforms as well as his personal life. A lot of materials have been written in 1920s, when Arabic words were still more commonly used than Turkish thus it is harder to analyze materials. On bachelor thesis it is described that Arabic alphabet is not suitable for Turkish language, but at the same time the Latin alphabet suits for Turkish, which can be likened to the Turkish language. By gaining independence and adoption of these reforms, the Turkish nation began to feel themselves as a united and strong community, also the Turkish nationalism grew. Turkish nation began to be more aware of their own culture and by attending National schools, people learned to read and write. Illiteracy in Turkey was slowly decreasing, add to this, Atatürk in 1932 started the language reforms that is still ongoing. However, in 1950, one-party system ended and for the elections winning party the Language Council was no longer a priority. However, the Turkish language reforms continue, even though linguistic conferences started in 1932, they are still being held. Although the extermination of many Arabic and Persian words, they are still in use, because the Turkish language alternatives have not fully entered the language. Often, without realizing themselves, Turks use Arabic words, but believe that words have Turkish origins.
