Darba tēmas izvēle tiek pamatota šādi – balstoties uz pētniecību, ko autore veica bakalaura darba izveides laikā, maģistra darbā šķita pamatoti sūfisma pētniecību turpināt, šajā gadījumā, gan padziļinātas izpētes, gan ģeogrāfisko reģionu ziņā (no arābu autoru izpētes bakalaura darbā uz persiešu/indiešu autoru maģistra darbā). The title of the master’s thesis is „Sufi metaphors in the poetry of Amir Khusrow Dehlawi”. In the research both poetry and prose is covered, granted, going into the analysis of poetry much deeper. The reason for this is the fact that metaphors are used much more in poetry than in prose, in which metaphor can be witnessed as a plot allegory or as a theme in general. In the thesis, poetry written in Persian will be analyzed (with only a few exceptions made with analyzing some Urdu poems). The choice of the topic can be justified thusly – based on the research that the author has previously done in their bachelor’s thesis, it seemed justified to continue this research further in the master’s thesis. In this case, the research has been conducted both in the depth of the subject and in covering another geographical region (moving on from researching Arab authors in the bachelor’s thesis to a Persian/Indian author in the master’s thesis). Even though there are many ways in which sufi metaphors are universal, when used in poetry they reflect many tendencies of the region and of the time. This aspect is worthwhile to research both on the basis of studying religion and literature (in this case, means of artistic expression in literature). In the introduction, problems that can arise both in reading and translating metaphors in poetry, are covered, paying special attention to the hardships of translating such a complex form of literature (mainly in the case of Persian metaphors). The thesis consists of the analysis of the poems of Amir Khusrow Dehlawi, meaning, both the ones in the collections he has comprised and the ones that he has not. Some research has been done on some of his other works, where influence of sufi poets can be seen and the usage of sufi metaphors is visible. In this thesis the author has tried to prove (or disprove) that the poetry of Amir Khusrow Dehlawi contains sufi metaphors. As a result of the research the author has concluded that the amount of metaphors that can be seen in the poetry of Amir Khusrow Dehlawi varies greatly. In some cases they are very prominent and in others they are scarce. Still, taking into account the poets friendship and studying with Nizamuddin Auliya, and the time and place which he inhabited, with all the specifics of the time, and the tendencies in art, literature and culture, one has to conclude that sufi metaphors, even if the intention of their usage is not always clear, are used in all the works of Amir Khusrow Dehlavi, but especially in his poetry.
