Saīsināto formu lietojums dažādu žanru vispārīgo korpusu tekstos

Abstract

Ir vispārpieņemts, ka saīsinājumi ir neoficiālas, mutvārdu saziņas raksturīga iezīme. Tomēr reizēm tās ir sastopamas arī dažādu citu žanru un reģistru tekstos. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir analizēt divas grupas saīsināto formu lietojumu dažādu žanru britu, amerikāņu un kanādiešu angļu valodas korpusa tekstos. Pirmais darba posms ietver literatūras pārskatīšanu, kuras mērķis ir raksturot terminus ‘korpuss’; ‘reģistrs’ un ‘žanrs’. Šis darbs ietver divu saīsinājumu grupu aprakstu rakstiskos un mutiskos tekstos. Otrājā darba posmā tiek izmantota uz korpusa balstīta saīsanāto formu analīze, lai izpētītu dažādu žanru trīs vispārīgo korpusa tekstu formalitātes līmeni. Pētījums liecina, ka saīsinājumi ir vairāk sastopami britu nacionālā korpusa tekstos nekā amerikāņu un kanādiešu angļu valodas korpusa tekstos. Bet visvairāk saīsinājumu akadēmisko žanru tekstos bija identificēti angļu valodas korpusa tekstos. Šis pētījums parāda, ka darbības vārdu saīsinājumi ir sastopami vairāk nekā negatīvi saīsinājumi trīs izvēlētos vispārīgo korpusu tekstos.

It is generally accepted that contractions are the characteristics of spoken, informal English language. However, contracted forms might also occasionally occur in more formal texts of various genres. The purpose of this research is to analyze the use of the two groups of contractions in the texts of the four selected genres in the three general corpora representing American, British and Canadian varieties of English – British National Corpus, Corpus of Contemporary American English and Strathy Corpus of Canadian English. The first phase of the work involves a literature review aimed to characterize the terms ‘corpus’; ‘register’ and ‘genre’. The paper also involves the description of the two groups of contractions in spoken and written texts. The second phase of the research uses a corpus-based frequency analysis of verb and negative contractions in order to examine the level of formality of the texts of the four selected genres in the three general corpora. The research shows that contractions are more frequently used in the texts of British National Corpus than in the other two selected corpora. As concerns the contractions in the texts of academic genre, the highest number of contracted forms was identified in Contemporary Corpus of American English. It was also found out that all the three researched corpora involve more negative contractions than verb contractions.
