Metaforu lietojums Latvijas banku skandālu atspoguļojumā ārvalstu medijos

Abstract

Interneta ziņu avotiem ir svarīga nozīme, jo tie ietekmē lasītāju uzskatus par ārvalstīs notiekošo, savukārt metafora ir noderīgs līdzeklis sensitīvu un strīdīgu jautājumu atspoguļošanā tās tēlainā un interpretējošā rakstura dēļ. Šis bakalaura darbs pēta, kā metaforas tiek lietotas ziņu rakstos par neseno Latvijas banku skandālu ar mērķi noteikt izmantoto metaforu funkcijas. Literatūras apskats satur materiālus par metaforu, tās funkcijām un to pielietojumu finanšu ziņu kontekstā. Veiktā kritiskā diskursa analīze, kas aplūkoja metaforu funkcijas kontekstā, atklāja, ka visbiežāk metaforas lietotas, lai paskaidrotu sarežģītus konceptus, kā arī, lai sekmētu to iegaumējamību. Turklāt, vairākas kreatīvās metaforas šos notikumus atainoja negatīvā gaismā, atbalstot konkrētus nepierādītus apgalvojumus.

Online news plays a crucial role on influencing the readers’ beliefs on foreign affairs, and metaphor is often a good means for depicting sensitive and contentious issues due to its figurative and interpretative nature. This bachelor thesis studies how metaphors are used in news articles portraying the recent Latvia’s banking scandal with an aim to analyse the functions of metaphors. Literature review deals with metaphor, its functions and its use in the context of financial news. The conducted critical discourse analysis of the functions of contextual metaphors revealed that the most common uses of metaphor in the chosen corpus were to explain and to enhance memorability. Also, several creative metaphors portrayed the matter in a negative light by supporting certain unproven allegations.
