This paper is dedicated to the discourse analysis of advertorials, which are claimed to be advertisements that resemble editorials. The goal of the research was to identify the means used to achieve the two-fold functions of advertorials. It was hypothesised that although the form of the advertorial resembles the editorial, it is marked by various linguistic and paralinguistic means which are typical of advertisements. The conducted discourse analysis revealed that the analysed advertorials possessed the features of a mixed genre combining the promotional purposes with the informative ones, which actually can be seen as complementing each other. The promotional purpose was achieved with the help of various linguistic means, for instance, epithets which evaluated the products in a positive manner and metaphors which were used to attract the reader's attention. Different paralinguistic means, such as logo, pictures and graphical stylistic devices also contributed to the achievement of this purpose. The present study confirmed the results of previous studies; thus, it can be concluded that the advertorials are similar in form to editorials, and they not only inform the reader about the benefits of the product described, but also promote it, thus being similar to advertisements.
