Stratēģijas, tulkojot Dr. med. Terijas Volsas darbu “Volsas protokols”

Abstract

Kopumā šobrīd cilvēki cenšas dzīvot amerikāņu dzīvēs stilā, viņi piepilda sevi ar piesārņojumu, neveselīgu ēšanu un dzeršanu, tāpat arī stresa līmenis ir pieaudzis un līdz ar to biežāk parādās slimības, jo īpaši Autoimunitāte. Kad šie cilvēki vēršas pie ārsta, viņi saņem recepšu medikamentus cerībā, ka tie palīdzēs. Tomēr vēloties uzturēt veselīgu dzīvi viņi lasa par diētām un veselīgu dzīvesveidu. Tādējādi viņi vairāk apzinās, ko viņi ēd un kā pavada laiku. Mūsdienās veselīga bioloģiski audzēta pārtika kļūst aizvien pieejamāka. Un cilvēki ir nonākuši pie secinājuma, ka viņus pozitīvi ietekmē aktīvs dzīvesveids. Liels devums ir grāmatas un e-grāmatas par veselību un diētām. Diemžēl, konkrētās grāmatas tieši par slimības apkarošanu ar dzīvesveida maiņu ir pārsvarā angļu valodā un ir margināla tulkošanas kategorija. Šī maģistra darba autore ir pārliecināta, ka tie pacientiem, kuri vēlas izlasīt un izmantot šo informāciju, būtu jādod tāda iespēja. Tādējādi šis darbs pēta stratēģijas, kas būtu piemērojamas vienas konkrētas veselības diētas grāmatas “Dr. Terijas Volsas “Volsas protokols”” tulkošanai. Temati, kas darbā tiek pētīti ir, pirmkārt, teorētiskie aspekti, kas varētu būt piemērojami šāda veida tulkojumiem, otrkārt, paralēlie teksti, kas var kalpot par paraugu un tajos atrodamie specifiskie komponenti – ēdieni kā kultūras reālijas un medicīnas termini, un treškārt, iegūtās zināšanas tiek izmantotas, lai tulkotu Dr. Terijas Volsas grāmatas fragmentu. Rezultāti ir iztulkotais grāmatas fragment un glosārijs, kurā atrodami 200 medicīnas termini un augu nosaukumi (angļu un latviešu valodā), un secinājumi par šāda veida tulkošanas stratēģijām.

In general, people today are trying to catch up with the American lifestyle, they become filled up with pollution, unhealthy eating and drinking, stress levels are high and therefore illness, especially auto-immunity, becomes more frequent. As these people turn to their doctors, they get prescribed medicine hoping that it will help. Still, as they want to enjoy a healthy life they read about diets and healthy living. Thus they become more cautious of what they eat and how they spend their time. Nowadays healthy biologically grown food becomes more available. And people have found that they benefit from an active lifestyle. A big contribution towards this are books and e-books about health and diets. Unfortunately the specific books about disease-fighting with life-style changes are all in English becoming a marginal category of translation. The author of this thesis is convinced that those patients who want to read the information and make use of it should have the opportunity. Thus the present thesis searches for strategies of translation for one specific health diet book – The Wahls protocol by Terry Wahls, M.D. The subjects examined are, firstly, the theory that could be attributed to such translations, secondly, the parallel texts that can be used as examples and their specific components – food realia and medical terminology, and thirdly, the acquired knowledge is used for translation of a fragment of the book by Dr. Terry Wahls. The result is the translated fragment of the book and a glossary with 200 medical terms and plant names (English-Latvian), and the conclusions on this type of translation strategies.
