The aim of this paper is to determine how fair compensation is calculated in the process of expropriation for public purposes. The thesis examines the ability for compensation to balance the interests of both parties. The main focus of the thesis lies upon the legal issues regarding state’s interference with property rights and balance between interests in Latvia. Hence, these issues are important and common for any other state and also any private individuals, since at some point any member of the society can become subject to expropriation.en_US
