Vaska M. 2019. Vaska M. 2019. Lake Ilzenu as European Union protected habitat assessment and water ecological quality determination. Bachelor thesis. Riga, University of Latvia, 46 pp. Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 421 „Regulations on the list of specially protected habitat types” provides that the water state of the lake is the main determining factor for the existence of standing freshwater protected habitats, so an exploration of the Lake Ilzenu has been based of the criteria of the Water Framework Directive, of the European Union and the Habitats Directive. The aim is to clarify the ecological quality of the Lake Ilzenu and to determine whether the Lake Ilzenu is classifiing the status of the habitat to be protected by the European Union. The results of the study show that Lake Ilzenu corresponds to the EU conservation habitat of 3150 eutroph lakes with submerged aquatic plants and floating leaved vegetation while the ecological quality of water is medium.
