Advertisements manipulate with the consumers’ psychology to provoke in them the desire and impulse to purchase. Commercials employ visual patterns of signs to establish the meaning by constructing, re-working and reinforcing the sociocultural beliefs about masculinity and femininity. Since humans usually define themselves in terms of gender, the perfume is classified by the gender criterion - thus the aim of the present thesis is to extend the interpretation of the ways in which fragrance advertisements heavily rely on the gender-related narratives, myths and discourses pre-existing in the society. The results of the research show that the depiction of the men and the women follows a certain framework and is dependent on the target audience of the product.
