Darbības vārdu konotāciju analīze Lielbritānijas laikrakstu redaktoru slejās

Abstract

Vārda nozīme ir sarežģīts un daudzpusīgs termins, tādēļ tam ir denotatīva (tieša) kā arī konotatīva (asociatīva) nozīme, kas paskaidro asociācijas, emocijas un individuālu pieredzi. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir pētīt darbības vārdu konotatīvās nozīmes britu laikrakstu redaktoru slejās, kā arī to funckijas un pielietojumu. Šajā pētījumā izmantotās metodes: pētīt teorijas materiālus un izveidot struktūru pētījuma analīzei, noformēt redaktoru sleju korpusu teskta analīzei, kurā iekļautas atrasto darbības vārdu konotatīvās nozīmes un semantiskie lauki. Analīzei tike izvēlēti raksti no The Independent. The Guardian un The Herald, kur aplūkota breksita tēma. BBC News raksti par breksitu tika izvēlēti, lai salīdzinātu konotatīvo darbības vārdu lietojumu redaktoru slejās un vienkāršos mediju rakstos. Tika noskaidrots, ka ņemot vērā, ka ziņu mediju rakstiem jābūt objektīviem, neizrādot emocijas, BBC News rakstos bija daudz mazāk konotatīvo darbības vārdu, salīdzinot ar The Independent, kurā tika atrasti visvairāk konotatīvie darbības vārdi. Tas ir tāpēc, ka redaktoru slejās, salīdzinot ar ziņu rakstiem, ir daudz vairāk pausti viedokļi un emocijas. Pēc sākotnējās analīzes, konotatīvie darbības vārdi tika iedalīti semantiskajos laukos, lai noteiktu to funckciju. Analīzes rezultāti parādīja, ka darbības vārdi tiek izmantoti ar negatīvu konotatīvu nozīmi, kad tiek runāts par breksitu. Tādējādi redaktori parāda savu attieksmi pret tēmu un provocē negatīvas emocijas par notiekošo procesu un iesaistītajiem cilvēkiem.

Meaning of the word is a complex and multifaceted term, therefore apart from primary, denotative meaning, there is also connotative meaning, which handles associations, emotions and individual experiences. The purpose of this research was to detect and study connotations introduced through the verbs in British newspapers editorials, as well as their function and distribution. The following methods were used for fulfilling this goal: studying theoretical material and building the framework for the empirical analysis, corpus analysis of newspapers editorials, as well as text analysis of identified connotative verbs and their semantic fields. Editorials from The Independent, The Guardian and The Herald on the topic of Brexit were chosen for collecting the corpus. As well as BBC News articles covering Brexit were selected for the analysis, in order to compare the use of connotative verbs in editorials to simple articles in media sources. It was indicated that due to the feature of reporting news having to be impartial and emotionless, BBC News articles contained a much smaller number of the connotative verbs than The Independent, which conveyed the largest number of connotations through the verbs, because editorials, unlike articles, are strongly opinionated and expressive. After the initial analysis, connotative verbs were divided into semantic fields, which demonstrated that the topic of Brexit is described using only negative and unfavourable connotations. These connotations are used to demonstrate editors’ attitude to the topic, as well as to provoke negative emotions and dissatisfaction with the process and the people involved in it.
