The bachelor thesis “Aesthetics and Biopower: The Body as an Object of art” discusses the link between the concept of biopower and aesthetic expressions in bodyart practices. The concept of biopower as developed by Michel Foucault reveals such dimensions of power as biopolitics, disciplinary power, which in the life of human beings demonstrate the repressive and productive nature of power. As one of the fields where relations of power are played out, aesthetics reveals the position of the body simultaneously as object and subject. This double position is crystallized in both regulatory and normalizing effects of biopower and resistance to it manifested in self-governance. Using the instruments of power itself, as well as the self-realization of man through bodily as well as spiritual practices, self-governance allows the subject to define his or her self. Keywords: Michel Foucault, biopower, biopolitics, aesthetics, body.
