dc.description.abstract | Salivary alpha-amylase as a marker for stress response, caused by laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation
Annotation
Endotracheal intubation by the direct laryngoscopy during anaesthesia is the
anaesthesiologists’ routine practice. Industries of medical technology are working at the manufacturing of alternative and much safer intubation appliances, for instance, firobronchoscope, videolaryngoscope, etc.
In order to estimate various intubation appliances, one has to assess the patient’s body response, which is hard to do while the patient is under anaesthesia. Catecholamine level in blood blasma and detection of direct arterial blood pressure is a technically complex and invasive method. The author suggests a method for the assessment of the patient’s stress response to laryngoscopy and intubation by applying a simple and non-invasive way to detect salivary alpha amylase. Correlation has been found between the patient’s stress response, catecholine concentration, catecholamine in blood plasma and concentration of saliva for which the author has received LR patent and has published the data in PubMed reference editions.
