Ir grūti iedomāties ikdienas dzīvi bez kāda no reklāmas veidu sastapšanas; tās izpausmes var tikt analizētas, izmantojot gan reklāmas diskursa, gan lingvistiskās ainavas teoriju. It is hard to imagine everyday life without encountering one or another form of advertising; its manifestations can be analysed applying both the theory on the discourse of advertising and linguistic landscape. The goal of the present research was to study the cases of advertising in Riga, comparing advertisements in the Centre of Riga and in the Old Town. The three languages – Latvian, Russian and English were compared to conclude which of the languages are prevailing and what the results might mean as well as what the groups targeted by businesses are. The advertisements were subjected for the analysis of features related to the discourse of advertising. For the purpose of the analysis, a case study method was used, studying the discourse of advertising, linguistic landscape, laws and regulations and the instances of public advertising in Riga. It can be concluded that even though the dominant ethnic group is the Latvians, advertisers also target Russian and English language speakers; English even prevailing in the Old Town advertisements. Advertisements in Riga have characteristic features of the discourse of advertising and employ either persuasive or informative functions.
