The cumulative doctoral thesis for the acquisition of Ph.D. in Physics degree (subsection – Astrophysics and Fundamental Astronomy) is devoted to the research of atmospheric features of large isolated sunspots and the magnetic field of bipolar active regions of the Sun on the bases of the analysis of their microwave emissions and the development of spectral polarimetric observations of microwave emissions of the Sun for solving the actual tasks of the solar physics.
The large isolated sunspots were supposed to be as one of the possible sources of the solar wind. This work contains the analysis of some distinguishing characteristics of microwave emissions of a number of large isolated sunspots. Based on the analysis of correlations of thermal emission mechanisms it is being proved that the reason of these unique features is the reduced plasma density above the large isolated sunspots. The numerical simulation allowed us to evaluate the atmosphere parameters above these sunspots and to provide the basic dependency of microwave emissions at a low plasma density for further interpretations of their observations.
A precise quantitative measurement of coronal magnetic fields needed for assessments of energy correlations in the active areas of the Sun and the prediction of their flare activity still remain an incompletely solved problem. The coronal magnetography drawing technique based on the analysis of the microwave emission polarization inversion during the quasi transverse propagation was refined in the work. The applied method allow us to build 2D and 3D distributions of the magnetic field in the corona above a number of bipolar active regions of the Sun.
A special set of hardware and software for the solar spectral polarimetric observations within the wavelength range of 3.2–4.7 cm with a high spectral resolution was implemented and tested on the RT-32 radio telescope of the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center. A number of important solar physics problems are expected to be solved by the spectral polarimetric observations of the Sun using the RT-32 radio telescope.
