The master's thesis "Virtual Reality Technologies as a Metaphor of Consciousness" deals with the application of this metaphor in the context of modern philosophy of mind. The aim of the work is to prove that, despite the usefulness of the virtual reality metaphor in specific contexts, it has significant limitations and problems that hinder the adequate description of phenomenal consciousness. The first part of the work deals with older technological metaphors (mind as a machine, a steam engine and a computer). The second part deals with the application of the metaphor of virtual reality in the texts of modern philosophy of mind in order to find out the justification for the application of the metaphor. In the third part, an analysis of this metaphor is performed to find out its limitations and theories of philosophy that are incompatible with this metaphor.
